Alumni events and engagement

Alumni Awards

Despite a freak snowstorm in April postponing our Alumni Awards Dinner in Wolfville, we were able to host an intimate Alumni Awards Reception in Halifax at the end of June to recognize and celebrate the inaugural award recipients. We were able to have Ryan Fanning, TD Insurance Relationship Manager, present the awards.

The Silver lining is that the food prepped for the Awards Dinner in April was donated to Meals on Wheels, and the florals were donated to a hospice in the Wolfville community.

Events and engagement

Thanks to your support of the Alumni Engagement Fund, NSCC Alumni Relations offers access to a wide range of student and alumni events. This past year, we supported 32 events with 50-100% reduced costs for students and alumni, focusing on community, networking, and career readiness, as well as deepening their connection and engagement with NSCC.

A few examples include:

  • Funding 21 Alumni Receptions across the province sponsored by TD Insurance, which is the first alumni event that new graduates attend as alumni, with refreshments and a professional photography photo booth.
  • Sponsoring career fairs across industries for NSCC students, including the Centre of Geographical Sciences (COGS) Industry Expo, Techsploration, IT, Marine Skills, and showcases such as Spark Creativity.
  • Hosting the Alumni Farm Fun Day at Noggins for a day of apple picking and fun for the whole family.
  • Hosting and offering a reserved section with discounted tickets for NSCC alumni to watch the Thunderbird and Halifax Wanderers games together with friends, family and their alumni community.
  • Supporting class reunions and anniversaries, including the 55th Class Reunion for Yarmouth Vocational School’s 1970 Secretarial class, Enactus NSCC Ivany 10th Anniversary with an Alumni Panel and Animediafest 20: Celebrating 25 years of the Digital Animation program at NSCC Truro Campus.
  • Hosting the Sydney Waterfront Campus Alumni Tour and Reception for the grand opening of the new campus.
