Commitment statement to IDEA²
At NSCC, the Research, Innovation and Workforce Development team is committed to creating opportunities that reflect and respect the diverse communities we serve. This isn’t about checking a box, we are listening, learning and working alongside Mi’kmaw and African Nova Scotian communities to build a more equitable, sustainable and prosperous future.
We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Nation, and that our relationship is rooted in peace and friendship treaties dating back to 1725. As Treaty beneficiaries, we are all Treaty People.
African Nova Scotians have shaped this province for over 400 years, building communities and contributing to economic growth, yet often without the benefits. We recognize acknowledging this history is key to a more just future.
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Anti-Racism (IDEA²) are more than principles we uphold – they guide how we collaborate, innovate and grow. Whether through research, industry partnerships or workforce initiatives, we believe diverse perspectives lead to stronger solutions. We’re committed to removing barriers and ensuring innovation is inclusive and accessible to all.
Looking ahead, we will continue learning, adapting and leading with inclusivity to amplify underrepresented voices and create opportunities that drive meaningful change.
